Donate Your New/Used Pet Items
Comfy Couch is now accepting donations of pet food and treats, accessories, bedding and anything else pet related. As well, the
facilities that are taking the donations are also accepting cleaning supplies for their centers. We will have a wish list posted
in our shop and on our website of specific items needed to help care for homeless animals. To help out in 2009, some of the places
we will be donating your items to are the Cochrane Animal Shelter, Meow Foundation, ARF Foundation and Angels Dream. If you have
any items that you wish to donate, please bring them to Comfy Couch and help out pets in need.

Pets and Cold Weather
Some pets are better suited than others for living outdoors. There is a common misconception that dogs will be "fine" if left outside. This is not true! All
pets need adequate shelter from the elements and insulation against cold weather. Pets should not be left outside for long periods in freezing weather - like humans, they can suffer from hypothermia and frostbite. The young and the senior pets are especially at risk in cold weather. Certain breeds, such as Huskies and Samoyeds are better suited to very cold weather, but the majority of dogs need special attention in these freezing temperatures.
*GROOMING TIP*: A frequently seen foot problem is the formation of ice balls between the pads and toes
of the feet, especially in dogs with long fur. Once ice balls form, they are very painful, much like walking on rocks. When dogs get these, they often whine, stop walking and start
chewing at the bottoms of their feet to remove the painful ice balls. To help prevent ice balls, ensure your groomer trims your dog's pads regularly.
Calgary Pet Expo
Comfy Couch will have a booth set up again this year at the Calgary Pet Expo. This 2 day consumer trade show is open to the public and is located this year at the Big 4 building on the
Stampede grounds (visit The Stampede's website at www.calgary-stampede.com for address details). At the show you will find hundreds of pets, pet products, service providers entertainers, clubs and organizations that cater to pets. The show strives to include all types of pets, anything from dogs & cats, to reptiles and other small caged exotics.
Due to our
attendance at the show, we will be closed Saturday April 18, 2009.
We strive daily to give quick, efficient service for you and your dog. Please keep in mind however that we are a busy salon, and although your dog
will be groomed in a timely fashion, their groom could in some rare cases take up to four hours to complete. Thank you for your patience.
